Auditions

Concentus is always interested in recruiting qualified new members. The size of our group is flexible. We’re looking for experienced choral singers who are committed to small-group singing, able to learn music independently, and interested in lifelong improvement as musicians.

The Process

Auditions are typically held at First Presbyterian Church in Pittsford, by appointment.

Director Anna Atwater and another member of Concentus will be present at your audition. Auditions, which usually last about half an hour, are relaxed and informal and are designed with plenty of time for you to introduce yourself and ask questions about Concentus. You’ll complete a form giving us basic information about your musical training and interests. It’s a good idea to warm up your voice before you arrive.

The audition consists of five parts:

  • basic warm-ups to demonstrate vocalization and range with piano accompaniment
  • matching pitches/intervals
  • a brief unaccompanied sight-singing test of the conductor’s choosing (about eight bars long, standard notation)
  • a brief song of your own choosing; you may sing a cappella or bring accompaniment music with you
  • a short trio to sing with Anna and the other member of Concentus
